At an !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! during Gamescom 2013, Kazunori Yamauchi claimed that players could use GT6 's Course Maker to create tracks in an area of "100 kilometers by 100 kilometers", or 10,000 square kilometers . !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! reports that Andreas Nie, InsideSimRacing 's European correspondent, approached him to clarify that.
At about the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! mark in the above episode of ISR , Nie recounts how he spoke with Gran Turismo producer Kazunori Yamauchi through a translator and discussed the 10,000 square kilometer claim as well as the skepticism that it had been met with. He asked Yamauchi if he'd meant that all of the possible locations that could be used in the Course Maker would total 10,000 square kilometers, and Yamauchi responded that he meant what he said - that players could create tracks inside a total area of 10,000 square kilometers (about 3,861 square miles) in GT6 using the in-game Course Maker.
However, Yamauchi then went on to say that the team wasn't 100% sure that the Course Maker would end up being capable of 100 km by 100 km, and that it might end up being capable of 50 km by 50 km instead. GTPlanet notes that 50 km by 50 km, or 2,500 square kilometers, is still a massive figure, and offers these numbers for comparison:
As mind-boggling as these numbers are, such an expansive landscape in a driving game is actually not without precedence; !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! reportedly contained over 1,600 square kilometers, and Codemaster’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! featured more than 14,500 square kilometers. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , the large-environment game closest to GT6 in terms of driving physics, spans roughly 163 square kilometers.
Thanks for sharing this to the FP, Matt!

Super long rally stages? Sign me up!
EDIT: Oh, and Targa Florio too!

But can you build castles in swamps?

Hmm
Rally exploring comes to mind..
Or making my hometown replica. My hometown only about 1000 sq miles. Small town, I know.

Yeah, a +10 for the Holy Grail reference.

I still reckon there's an error in translation here because it's numbers as well as linguistics. 10,000 square kilometers? Maybe all of the space available will be that large but not one massive area that you can create a huge track in and play seamlessly, not with 256MB of RAM.
I'm thinking it's going to be like the recent SimCity in that it will be zones and each player has a zone within a massive play area but you can only play in one zone at a time.

Gentlemen...we need to think bigger than courses on Earth...

He made it, I just showed the reference.

If you watch the video at the part that I pointed out, Nie goes into how everyone was skeptical about that claim because of the translation. Besides, Kaz himself admitted that figure's not a done deal and that it'll probably be smaller.
I am curious to see if and how the hardware could handle tracks that large.

I would hope this could allow hugely massive straights to be created so we can finally actually test the top speed of our vehicles. I've always thought racing games where you can modify your cars like Forza and GT needed some fictional huge straight where you could run top speed tests. The best thing Forza has is LeMans without the Mulsanne straight chicanes, but it's a tiny bit hilly and it's not quite long enough for some vehicles.

So this means me and my friends can do a Gumball rally type of thing? YAY!

Yeah, that's what I meant. I was about to mention it, but you had beaten me to it.

Wonder how big it is compared to say, San Andreas?

I wonder if We can make our own elevation.
then we can create tracks that are real life but not in the game.
like Sebring

You do realize how large the Nurbertring track is right? I'm talking about the Norschlife one. This will be no issue on current hardware, just like it was no issue on PS3 hardware that was how many years old? 8?

We did get Route X in GT5 , but longer straights would be great.

San Andreas is 36 square kilometers, according to Wikipedia .

So, we'll have the option to purchase land for race tracks in tsubo? I've always wanted 10,000,000 tsubo land tracts.

Even if you include a 100 kilometers long rally stage and add a one kilometer to the left and one to the right for your wide-angle viewing pleasure, it's still only 200 sq kilometers...

Did you miss the part about Fuel having an even bigger area?

I say put a 140km arrow straight highway going right through the diagonal. Because I like to cheat, make it with a tailwind and steep downhill. A huge banking turn at the end to stop people flying out of bounds, then crisscross the big highway with jumps all the way back up to the start.
![]() 09/02/2013 at 17:48 |

I hope we get 100km of elevation to play with.

Well goddamn, slow the fuck down KY! You gotta save something for GT7!
...aaaaaaand I've just realized one of my favorite gaming heroes has 'KY' as initials.

This needs to happen. I've always wanted to race Rainbow Road with real cars.

If the course maker is the same as before, it's rather limited in the course itself. You can set sharpness and number of bends, but that's about it. You couldn't make a map of your town, or even anything more than the one racetrack road.
![]() 09/03/2013 at 01:37 |
|
Wait, you mean we aren't getting some incredibly chesty ladies in GT6?
![]() 09/03/2013 at 01:38 |

Or they could just simple add Ehra-Lessien to the list of available tracks.

![]() 09/03/2013 at 03:09 |

Nah, that's why I want them to improve the coursemaker.
![]() 09/03/2013 at 03:49 |

It doesn't matter if its 10,000kms or 100,000km for space, what is most important is to make a decent course maker, i mean the one on Gran turismo 5 sucks, the track maker is VERY limited, you cant do anything with it, it only gives you like 2 pieces of track to work with, straight aways and very wide corners, in other words is useless, as far as i know you cant place lets say a chicane or a hairpin, S corners, etc so it would be intersting to see if the new course maker is not crap like the one on GT5
![]() 09/03/2013 at 06:17 |

that would be pretty awesome.
that, all 2013 spec FIA WEC/ALMS/ELMS spec racing cars .
alot more tracks like COTA,sebring,LR,VIR
etc. that would all be fun

The R32 Motul J-spec Type-Z Skylines (well, the supercharged pre-1999 FT-Sport models, anyway) would make short work of that course. Take your pick, there are 11 such cars in the game.
![]() 09/03/2013 at 10:05 |

Does it need to load all at once, or like GTA could the system be constantly loading and optimizing the track on the horizon? So at any given moment you have a much smaller amount of track fully loaded in front of and behind you.

The Nurburgring sits on about about 16 sq km. ?
